Artwork Synopsis:
This series of portfolio is mainly emphasized on the triumph of homosexuals
who they have been slowly gaining recognition throughout the world since the
past decades. It highlights some elements such as costumes, make-up and fashion
materials in the black & white world. |
About the Artist:
Alexander Ong Amodio is a Malaysian photographer currently living in London. He began his photographic career at 18. He has worked for a newspaper in Malasia & photo agency in Singapore. When the Tsunami hit in December 2004, he was called upon to carry out a photographic reportage assignment in Indonesia
to portray the Tsunami refugees.

Memories of Ireland

Artwork Synopsis:
Ann Foster painted this work having returned from an S & M party in Ireland. It was her first visit to Ireland and she was impressed by the quirky people she met over that weekend and needed to express that. |
About the Artist:
Ann gained a first class hon degree from Sheffield and a M.A. from Manchester.
She worked for many years as a social worker and psychotherapist. Recent
Exhibitions: New York 8/2007 Sheffield 6/2007 London 2/2007. Issues of
sexuality and gender are of particular interest to her and lesbian, transsexual
and transgenic images strongly influence and pervade her work.

of Him #4

Artwork Synopsis:
Portraits of Him (2007) comments on and challenges masculinity as a form
of identity. By focusing on men of female to male transgender the series aims
to use the sitters' embodiment of masculinity to explore notions of desire,
fantasy and dreams. Portraits of Him' dipicts a longing, culminating in the
desire to become him. |
About the Artist:
Photography for ASA Johannesson is a tool for self-exploration. Asa graduated
from University of Westminster BA Photographic Arts in 2006.
Asa's most recent project, Portraits of Her is selected to show at the
Magenta Flash Forward/Emerging Photographers 2007, Lennox Contemporary,
Toronto, Canada in October 2007.

sex city
Artist: Beldan Sezen

Artwork Synopsis:
Since her early childhood years, Beldan Sezen struggled with the discrepancy
between what she directly experienced and what often had become common acceptance
through social conventions and a language of silence. Taboos implanted by
words and visuals which she understands as an intellectual and emotional diminishment.
Therein lies the motivation for the work. |
About the Artist:
Beldan Sezen is of Turkish origin, born in 1967 and grew up in Germany. Now
based in Amsterdam, Beldan works as a freelance artist, having done illustrations,
cartoons and short animation films. Beldan is part of the artists4freedom group
and a published poet who is currently working on a graphic novel, and
a lesbian murder mystery.

Artwork Synopsis:
The work deals with the themes of displacement, queer beauty or identity,
alienation and ambiguity through the use of familiar objects such as my
body/the body and its becoming foreign, fragmented or abstracted - the blurred
boundaries of a hybrid sexual object, a body, a human body and an animal
body. |
About the Artist:
Francisca Bancalari is a 24 years artist of Argentinian nationality.
She has a Fine Art degree from Goldsmith’s post the foundation course
at the Central St Martins. She also studied fine Art- painting at
the University of Buenos Aires.

Artwork Synopsis:
The work is a large scale drawing from a collection based on the female kiss
taken from one of Rodin's most famous sculptures “the kiss” capturing the phychological
condition and phenoma of love. The works were formulated and convieved in
the city of angels with a cineamotography feel towards the finished image. |
About the Artist:
Gillian McCormick was born at 5.05am in a sleepy scottish village. She graduated
with Hons from the department of drawing and painting at the Glasgow
School of Art and spent a brief spell at the New York academy under scholarship,
but found the course too rigid with their use of skeletons and mathematics
to portray the figure, preferring to fuse expression with mannerism.

Astronomy for Poets

Artwork Synopsis:
Ken Hurd is an artist working in original mixed media on canvas and small editions
of giclee prints. He creates exotic or puzzling landscapes that are intended
to create a ‘sense of wonder’ about the world.Ironically his work draws
on imagery from encyclopedias and 'books of knowledge' that he used to pore
over as a boy, because the work is more about a lack of knowledge about the
world. ‘Astronomy
for Poets’ is about childlike
innocence about the world”. |
About the Artist:
Trained as an illustrator/designer, Ken Hurd has produced freelance work
for Raleigh Bikes, Peugeot Cars and Cadbury's. After winning the prestigious
Adobe Photoshop calendar competition in the year 2000, he decided to finish work
to study fine-art at the University of Wolverhampton. Graduating in 2004
he now spends his time working on his own highly personal mixed media
projects on canvas and small limited editions of giclee prints.

Artwork Synopsis:
As a material object the photograph can be viewed as an indexical inscription
of time and presence of time to emerge within the image. The faint traces
of figures in the work operate as phantoms, indecipherable but alluring to a
presence of lives halted in an embalment of time. Within the construction of
these prints various photographic printing strategies and techniques have been
adopted, with the resulting prints being formed from a combination of layers
and printing process. |
About the Artist:
Born in Barnstaple, Devon in 1979 Hughes left in 2000 and headed to
Brighton to pursue a career in the arts. Here he developed a passion
for sculpture, working with textiles, domesticated objects and discarded
materials. Originally indenting to study tapestry at Edinburgh, his
tutors saw the potential in his photographic work and persuaded him to
apply him self in that direction. He is currently in his final year of
his BA (hons) Photography Degree at the London College of Communication.

Artwork Synopsis:
Nigel Grimmer’s practice explores the relationship between public and personal imagery and its influence on the
production of identity. An archive of ephemera from popular culture - comic books, action figures, joke shop props, snapshots and film stills - is drawn through his personal narratives and then returned to the public realm. Rendered both strange and familiar, Grimmer presents an alternative to mainstream culture, an acknowledgment of his experience by the conveyance of a unique sensibility, a
subculture, formed by the selection and editing of this material. |
About the Artist:
Has a Masters in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in 1998. Since graduating
Grimmer has exhibited throughout the UK and has shown work in Germany,
France and Switzerland. Grimmer has curated a number of exhibitions in
London and his work is regularly published in a variety of journals.

About the Artist:
Since graduating from Art school in 1990, Sarah Davis has
travelled from Fine Art to Multimedia, and now she is going forward to Fine Art
and making sculpture again. Sarah is curious about how we can dare to
be as we truly are, in our visceral, sensual, theatre of life. Her sculptural
work and animations are widely exhibited accross the country, including
galleries in London & Manchester.

Based on Vince Laws’ poem Diagnosed.
Written on and about the day I was diagnosed HIV+. Made by painting my body and
lying on a clean bedsheet in the foetal position. The text is written as if
by the figure behind the glass. |

About the Artist:
Vince Laws was born in Erith, Kent, 1961. He has sub-edited Gscene (the Brighton LGBT magazine) for the last 7 or 8 years, and in the last few years returned to visual art, producing pieces based on his poetry. He is currently working on a 21st century queer version of the Faust legend in which an HIV+ man sells his soul to the devil in return for perfect health, the voice of a poet, and to die at his happiest moment.

About the Artist:
Ajamu was born in Huddersfield, West
Yorkshire, England in 1963. He is predominatly a self-taught
issue based fine art photographer specialising in black homo-content figure studies,
self- portraits and studio based constructed imagery. The practice through
experimentation and risk taking is to extend, push contemporary theoretical
debates on Identities, The Body, race, genders, play, sexualities and
pleasures.
