Rosa Bonheur, one of the most significant French painters of the 19th century, lived for 40 years with her companion Nathalie Micas. Her unconventional lifestyle has since left critics and historians puzzled over the role of gender and sexuality in her art. Jo Rhymer is a specialist in 19th century French painting and will discuss the life and art of this ground-breaking artist and woman.

Renowned panelist Qasim Riza Shaheen (Artist), Topher Campbell (Film Director), Stuart Frost (V & A Learning and Interpretation Team) and Paul Burston (Author and Editor of Time Out LGBT section) are to look at what marks as a queer sensibility or does it even exist? Do designers' sexualities reveal themselves in the works that they create? Do artists' sexual interests inflect their aesthetic choices? A debate about the relationship between sexual identity and art.
